Now this is an extremely niche app I made (in Rust!) that addresses a very specific issue that honestly, I cannot believe hasn’t been solved cleanly yet. Currently only supporting Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for both PSP, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for RPCS3 / PS3; Transfarmer will let you basically do what the “Transfarring” feature used to do between the PS3 and PSP (moving your save from one system to the either in either direction).
It was quite a pain to get working correctly as the save data isn’t always static values, and there’s a heavy process of things that need to happen to make this work between RPCS3 and a real PSP. This can technically work with a PS3 / PPSSPP save but I’ve tested only with the latest build of RPCS3 and a PSP 1000 rockin’ ARK-4.
Depending on which direction you are transferring to, the app will decrypt the RPCS3 peace walker save data and use a mapper to properly convert it to a PSP save file, then re-encrypt it back onto the system. For this to work, you must have at least one save file on the target system that Transfarmer will overwrite. Secondly, you need the game key (used to decrypt PSP peace walker saves) in hex format that you can follow the instructions on the app to get (run a plugin on your PSP that dumps the games key). The app will require the key on startup and save it locally to a key.txt to be used when you re-run the app.
One of the cool things about building a full 1 to 1 mapper is that it allows you to manipulate the values. After another painstakingly monotonous process I was able to find the values for each systems save data to provide enough context to make it easy for you to edit your Mother Base staff members (the mapping isn’t 100% complete but I’ve gotten majority of the main stuff I think). Maybe if there’s more requests for it I can dig into more of the mappings but the editor wasn’t really the main reason for this app.
Even though I’m most likely not going to use Transfarring to switch between RPCS3 (a superior version of the game in every way except for portability) and the PSP, I just like having the option to, just like when I was a kid.
